The Austin Fiber Artists organization has been accepted to have a show at the Dougherty Arts Museum. Members have submitted their original Fiber art pieces for jury selection. The show will go up August 1 at the downtown City of Austin museum. Check back here for more information on the dates for the opening reception.
One of our member organizations, the Houston Area Fiber Artists will be having their 2013 annual juried gallery show “Art for Art’s Sake”.
The gallery will show will be restricted to art works that are primarily fiber , such as all hangings, sculpture pieces, dolls as well as wearable art clothing. The juror for the show is ctoria Lightman. All pieces juried into the show must be for sale and be included in the show for the entire duration of the show.
In addition to the juried entries for the gallery show, a non-juried exhibition/display of fiber art and its process will be included. Exhibition pieces will be handled by Carol Watson, Co-Chairman of Art for Art’s Sake.
The show opening reception will be held at Gallery M Squared, 7-9 PM on Oct. 26.
During the opening reception, there will be also be a fashion show featuring outer wear garments made by Houston Area Fiber Artists. The style show will only be presented at the opening reception.
During the fashion show, models will walk throughout the room, allowing patrons to see the fashions as well as view the wall art gallery displays.
Original fashion wearables will be coats, vests, jackets, pull-on and pull-over garments that are simple and easy to take on and off. All garments in the fashion show will be for sale.

Art for Arts Sake: 2013 HAFA Gallery and Fashion show
Show Title: ART FOR ARTS SAKE

The Fashion Show will take place during the Opening Reception in a relaxed
manner that will allow patrons to ‘sip and see’ and mix and mingle among
the stationary wall art. This will be an outer wear fashion show with some
stationary ensembles on mannequins.
Preparations are continuing for the 2013 San Antonio Fashion Show to be held at the San Antonio Country Club in May 2013.
Tickets to members of FASA (Fiber Artists of San Antonio) and other members of the Texas Federation of Fiber Artists will be available for sale starting in January 2013 at the FASA monthly meeting. Tickets will be $55, a slight increase over last year. Tickets will be available to the general public for $65 starting in March.
Sandra Bloom, current president of FASA urges all members who plan on attending to take advantage of the ticket rate being offered only to current members and TFFA members.
Last year tickets went quickly for the 2012 Fashion show so start your planning now to attend the May 2013 San Antonio Fashion Show.
The Fiber Artists of San Antonio (FASA) will have the opening reception for their Annual Exhibition on Tuesday, October 9th from 7:00 to 9:00.
The ” Call for Entry” on the FASA web site and is an interactive form that can be submitted directly from the FASA web site.
The deadline for digital submission is September 14, 2012. Artists may enter up to 3 works - $25.00 for FASA members and $35.00 for non-members. Artist Ginny Eckley from Houston is the Juror for the Exhibition.
There are cash prizes for the first three places: $200 for first, $150 for second, and $100 for third. This year the show will be held at the Bismarck Studios Contemporary Fine Art Gallery in north San Antonio.
