Houston Area Fiber Artists Fashion Show

One of our member organizations, the Houston Area Fiber Artists  will be having their 2013 annual juried gallery show “Art for Art’s Sake”. 

The gallery will show will be restricted to art works that are primarily fiber , such as all hangings, sculpture pieces, dolls as well as wearable art clothing.   The juror for the show is ctoria Lightman.   All pieces juried into the show must be for sale and be included in the show for the entire duration of the show.

In addition to the juried entries for the gallery show, a non-juried exhibition/display of fiber art and its process  will be included.   Exhibition pieces will be handled by Carol Watson, Co-Chairman of Art for Art’s Sake.

The show opening reception will be held at Gallery M Squared, 7-9 PM on Oct. 26.

During the opening reception, there will be also be a fashion show featuring outer wear garments made by Houston Area Fiber Artists.  The style show will only be presented at the opening reception.

During the fashion show, models will walk throughout the room, allowing patrons to see the fashions as well as view the wall art gallery displays.

Original fashion wearables will be  coats, vests, jackets, pull-on and pull-over garments that are simple and easy to take on and off.   All garments in the fashion show will be for sale.

Tokoy Electron Exhibit Deadline

The deadline to enter the Austin Fiber Artists Tokoy Electron “Fast Forward 2013″ Exhibit is approaching quickly.

Requirements for artwork submission are:

      • primarily of textiles, but may incorporate other materials
      • two– or three-dimensional
      • be original and finished after January 2011
      • not previously exhibited in an AFA exhibit.

Eligibility: Members of Austin Fiber Artists or the Texas Federation of Fiber Artists may submit up to three (3) pieces of art for a $20 fee.

FASA Fashion Show Sat. May 12, 2012

The Fiber Artists of San Antonio fashion show for 2012 will be this Saturday May 12, 2012.

The event will also feature fiber art vendors, a silent auction and a raffle.  The vendors will be selling a wide variety of clothing styles and designs and is definitely not to be missed.

Fashion show tickets are currently sold out, however, the vendors area is open to the public.  Also, all garments included in the fashion show will be available for purchase after the end of the event.  Even if you missed out purchasing a ticket, there are opportunities to see the great work created by Fiber Artists of San Antonio members.

The fashion show will be held at the  Oak Hills Country Club, 5403 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio.  The fashion show garments, and the vendor area will open again after the end of the fashion show at approximately 1:00 o’clock.

This is one great event to attend!

 
Fiber Artists Near Tyler Texas

Penny Hurst, organizer of the newly forming Fiber Artists group near Tyler Texas reported a great initial meeting with 15 artist from around the Tyler area.  The group was enthusiastic about the new group and the opportunities to work to provide regular meetings and other events.

Vickie Lacy also joined in with the leading of the group.

The group plans to meet again in June.  Ms. Hurst asked that fiber artists in East Texas spread the word about the new group to other groups that they are members.  Please continue to check with the Texas Federation of Fiber Artists website for more details.

Early Registration for the Texas Federation of Fiber Artists ends December 1, 2012!

There are still classes with space available. If you have never attended a conference please consider doing so. It is a great way to meet and talk with other Fiber Artists right here in your own backyard!
